Summer Camp 2013
* Troop 10 will attend Camp Onteora the week of July 29, 2013. Summer camp deposits of $75 are due to the Troop by March 19, 2013 to obtain the discount rate of $350. Camp fees for deposits made after this date are $375. The final payment must be turned in by April 26, 2013. Registration for merit badges at summer camp will not be available without a deposit. Additional information will be uploaded to the Summer Camp page in early March. Contact a Scoutmaster if you have additional questions.
 

National Jamboree Trip
* This year’s national Jamboree trip will see us travelling to the Florida Keys from July 15-22, 2013. Scouts must be 14 years old by December 31, 2013, have earned the swimming merit badge, and hold the rank of Star to be eligible for the trip. The cost for this adventure is $700. There are only a few spots left. We will have a parents meeting January 15 after the regular Scout meeting to discuss the Trip Itinerary and other important details. If your Scout is participating and you cannot make the informational meeting, contact one of the Scoutmasters for all of the necessary information. The Troop is asking that the second payment of $300 be made by February 1, 2013. The final payment of $300 will be due in May.

Yogi Bear - Cub Scout Boo Boo:
* Yogi tries to persuade Boo-Boo to become a Boy Scout. Boo-Boo declines the offer, but Yogi corrects himself by saying that he will be joining the "Cub Scouts", as part of the "Bear Patrol." Grizzly Bear Eats Airplane in Alaska:
* Bush pilots know that wildlife can be hazardous to their health and equipment, but how many would expect a grizzly bear to eat an airplane? It appears that if a bear destroys your plane in the woods you can use duct tape to fly it home, if you're crazy, or brave, or both. It's more proof that duct tape can fix anything..


Yosemite Nature Notes:
* Yosemite Nature Notes is a fascinating video podcast series that tells unique stories about the natural and human history of Yosemite National Park. Produced by the National Park Service, this series features park rangers, scientists, historians and park visitors as they discuss the diverse plants and animals that make Yosemite their home, as well as the towering cliffs, giant waterfalls and mountain peaks that are known throughout the world. There are 17 episodes available for viewing. Episodes 7 and 11 highlight two areas we will be visiting as part of our high adventure trip this summer.


Sherlock Holmes:

Merit Badges Scouts and Scouters Wish They Could Earn:
* Here are a few Merit Badges many of us wish were offered by the National Council.


Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook:
* A new Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook has been released by National.  The Project Workbook will be required as of Jan 1, 2012.  Eagle Scouts currently working in the old book can continue to do so and finish up with that workbook.  Eagle Candidates that are planning a project now, can use either book, but they are encouraged to use the new book since it willl be mandatory as of Jan 1, 2012.


How to Hang a Bear Bag:
* Check out this pictoral guide on How to Hang a Bear Bag. This method is popular with ultralight thru-hikers and requires two materials that you normally carry (cord and carabiner). Like all bag hangs, it can be foiled by smart, food-conditioned Yogi Bears. Check regulations to make sure hanging bear bags are legal.

The Roman Army Knife :

An intricately designed Roman implement, which dates back to 200AD, is made from silver but has an iron blade. It also features a spoon, fork, a retractable spike, spatula and small tooth-pick.

     Welcome to the Home Page of Troop 10!

      Troop 10 developed and maintains this website in order to:

           *  Keep our Scouts and Scouting families informed.
           *  Share our adventures and knowledge with family, friends and the Scouting community.
           *  To help bring in new Scouts to our Troop.
           *  Let our community know about our Troop, its activities, and objectives.
           *  Encourage community support for our Troop and projects. Scouting has much to offer our community's
              youth. Our Troop gives back to the community by developing more responsible citizens and through
              numerous service projects. 

Troop 10 of Great Neck is pround to be one of the oldest Boy Scout Troops in the United States. We were chartered by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1915. Because of our roots, we are known as The Rough Riders.Troop 10 is sponsered by the Citizen's Group of Great Neck and is non-denominational. We belong to the Shelter Rock District in the Theodore Roosevelt Council.

Troop meetings are on Monday evenings from 7:45pm - 9:00pm during the school year at the North Shore Presbyterian Church in Lake Success, New York.
